How to Set Up Wireless Keyboard to a Mac
Make sure your wireless keyboard is charged and in pairing mode before you begin.
Different keyboards will have different ways to enter pairing mode…
…but most will require you to hit a certain button or switch.
Instructions can be found in the manual that came with your keyboard.
- Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen to open the “System Preferences” app on your Mac.
- Select “Bluetooth” from the drop-down menu. If you don’t see the Bluetooth icon straight away, use the search bar in the top-right corner of your Mac to look for it.
- If your keyboard is turned on and in pairing mode, you should see its name show in the “Devices” list. Next to it, click “Connect.” If your wireless keyboard isn’t showing up, check that it’s in pairing mode and that your Mac’s Bluetooth is turned on.
- Your Mac will probably ask you to “identify” or calibrate the keyboard by pressing a series of keys. Follow the on-screen prompts and press the appropriate keys.
- You should be able to use your keyboard with your Mac right immediately, even if more setup instructions occur.
- It will take a few moments for your Mac to connect, and then you’ll be ready to go. The word “Connected” appears next to the keyboard’s name, indicating that it has been connected with your Mac and is ready to use.
- If the keyboard and Mac don’t connect, try restarting them both.
- Turning the keyboard off or right-clicking it in the Bluetooth menu and selecting “Unplug” will disconnect it from your Mac.

Make sure your keyboard is charged and in pairing mode before you begin.
To engage pairing mode, most devices have a switch or button that you must press…
…albeit the process varies by model. For precise instructions, consult the handbook that came with your keyboard.
- Find and pick the “Devices” option in the “Settings” app on your PC, then click “Bluetooth & other devices.” The Settings app can be accessed directly from the Start menu.
- Select “Add Bluetooth or other devices” from the drop-down menu. Check to see if Bluetooth is turned on.
- When asked what type of device you’re adding, select “Bluetooth.” Most peripherals will work with the “Bluetooth” option.
- Your keyboard should appear on the “Add a device” tab if it is in pairing mode. Simply press the button.
- Your PC will then prompt you to use the Bluetooth keyboard to enter a PIN. Fill in the blanks. The PIN will not be the same as the passcode it may request.
- Your keyboard and PC will pair when you input the PIN successfully. If they still won’t connect, try restarting both the keyboard and the computer.
- Turn the keyboard off or click on it in the Bluetooth menu and pick “Remove this device” to unplug it from your PC.
Sum Up
